FAQ
Questions from the tech table.
What Mac do I need?
A Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apple silicon (M1 or later) is recommended, with 8 GB of RAM as a minimum and 16 GB for long sessions with multitrack audio. Allow 100 GB or more of free disk for a full tech day.
Which consoles and playback systems does it work with?
grandMA3 and ETC Eos send their cues over OSC, and grandMA2 cues come in over MIDI Show Control. On the media side it works with QLab 5, Pixera, disguise and Millumin. Timecode can come from LTC, MTC, Art-Net, or sACN from an ETC Eos.
Does it work without the internet?
Yes. Recording, playback, Live Notes and Stage Display all run on the Mac and the venue network. The internet is only needed for cloud shows and for checking your licence, and a licence keeps working offline for 14 days between checks.
How does the free trial work?
Download ShowRevue, open it and press Start 14-Day Trial. That Mac runs as Professional for 14 days, with no card and no account. Each Mac gets the trial once.
What happens when the trial ends?
ShowRevue becomes the free Viewer on that Mac. It keeps playing your recordings and following live shows, but it stops recording until you add a Base, Professional or Max licence. Your recordings are standard files and stay yours.
Is there a free version?
Yes. The Viewer is free for good. It plays any recording with its cues and notes, follows a live ShowRevue show and joins a cloud show as a team member. It doesn't record.
Is there education pricing?
Yes. Currently enrolled students get ShowRevue Base free on their own Mac. Schools get Professional features from $349 a year for a 5-seat Classroom licence, with Department, Campus and a $49 Education Production Pass too. Every application is checked by hand, usually within a couple of days. The Education page has the details.
Is it show-safe?
Yes. When a session is set as a Show, no cue commands go out to the console while it records, and Stop becomes hold-to-stop. The Output Audit Trail logs anything ShowRevue sends, and anything the lock blocked.
Is the video file locked to ShowRevue?
No. H.264 and H.265 recordings are standard MP4 files that open in any player, with the cue and note data inside. ProRes LT recordings are MOV files with a sidecar metadata file.
